ABOUT THIS EVENT

The ITR Women in Tax Forum - East Coast will be taking place virtually on March 3 & 4.

 

Welcoming junior corporate tax professionals all the way through to managers, directors and heads of tax, and newly admitted lawyers through to managing partners (both men and women). The forum aims to support the advancement of women in tax over two days and provide a professional development opportunity.

 

There has now never been a more important time to keep up to date. This virtual event provides women in tax the opportunity to network and learn from industry thought leaders. Heather Norko is currently Head of Tax of Elastic, where she brings more than 25 years of diverse tax and finance experience. Heather started her career in tax at KPMG in Stamford, Connecticut. She worked for 13 years at Praxair, Inc. where she gained valuable experience in all areas of tax by being a part of a best in class team. After Praxair, at Ann Inc. (parent company for Ann Taylor), Heather developed SOX controls and automation while leading a team in co-sourcing arrangements with strategic partners. Wanting the opportunity to participate in an Initial Public Offering, Heather took the role as Head of Tax of Cotiviti, representing the tax function in the IPO process as well as building a tax team from the ground up.



She has a Bachelors of Science degree in Accounting and a Masters In Taxation.

Sonia Hollies is the Senior Vice President, Global Tax, Risk Management, and Treasurer at Perrigo Company. Sonia is responsible for our global Tax and Treasury strategies and teams.



Sonia brings more than 25 years of diversified tax, accounting, and finance experience to her role. Prior to joining Perrigo, she served as Chief Tax Officer at Conduent Inc. She led a tax transformation that included building a new tax organization, implementing tighter controls and partnering with the business units and other corporate functions, including mergers and acquisitions. Previously, Sonia held various leadership positions at Xylem Inc., MasterCard Inc., United Technologies Corporation, and Purdue Pharma.



Sonia holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and an MBA in Finance from Pace University, an M.S. in Taxation from Bentley University, and an M.S. in Accounting and Financial Management from Keller Graduate School of Management. Sonia is pursuing a Doctorate in Business Administration and expects to complete it in 2023. For the past 20 years, Sonia has also served as an Adjunct Professor in tax, accounting, and finance at various educational institutions.

Grace Perez-Navarro is the Deputy Director of the OECD’s Centre for Tax Policy and Administration. As such, she plays a key role in all of the OECD’s tax work including the tax challenges of digitalisation, the Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS) Project, improving international tax cooperation, tackling illicit financial flows, promoting better tax policies and engaging developing countries in OECD tax work. Since joining the OECD in 1997, she has held several key positions, including having led the OECD’s tax work on bank secrecy, e-commerce, harmful tax practices, money laundering and tax crimes, countering bribery of foreign officials, and strengthening all forms of administrative cooperation between tax authorities.



Prior to joining the OECD, she was a Special Counsel at the IRS Office of the Associate Chief Counsel (International) where she coordinated guidance to field offices on international tax issues, oversaw litigation of international tax issues, negotiated TIEAs and treaties, and reviewed regulations, rulings and other policy advice. In 1993, she was seconded to the OECD to launch the revision of the OECD’s Transfer Pricing Guidelines.

Randi has been a NY-based tax lawyer for over 30 years (but she refuses to tell us exactly how much over!). She is currently Chief Tax Counsel at Siemens. During her past 25 years with Siemens, she has worked on a wide variety of domestic and international tax planning issues, including inbound and international tax planning, M&A, executive compensation, employee benefits, Federal and state tax audit and controversy, and government affairs. Following enactment of the TCJA, BEAT has been a particularly key issue for Siemens and Randi has spoken at NFTC and IFA conferences regarding BEAT and other issues currently confronting in-house tax lawyers. Randi holds a BS in Finance from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, a J.D. from Villanova University School of Law, and an LL.M. in Tax from NYU. Elizabeth Stevens is a Member at Caplin & Drysdale, where her practice centers on transfer pricing and international tax planning and advocacy for corporate clients. In addition to advising on transfer pricing planning, documentation, and compliance, Ms. Stevens regularly represents companies in the negotiation of Advance Pricing Agreements and in Mutual Agreement Procedure cases. In the broader international tax context, Ms. Stevens assists clients in the structuring of U.S. inbound and outbound investment and business activities and cross-border transactions. She also frequently advises on income tax treaty issues.



A recent focus of Ms. Stevens’ practice has been advice on the implications for particular business models of particular elements of the 2017 U.S. tax reform, including the base erosion and anti-abuse tax (BEAT), the global intangible low-taxed income (GILTI) regime, changes to the foreign tax credit, and the foreign-derived intangible income (FDII) regime.

In addition to advising companies on cross-border transactions, Ms. Soubbotina has developed tailored transfer pricing programs for companies in the life sciences, energy, technology and media industries, solutions for early-stage and private companies, and efficient Global Documentation processes for companies with multiple affiliates or transactions. She designs and implements solutions to complex business problems, frequently teaming with cross-functional company and external stakeholders, including law firms and tax accounting firms.



Prior to joining CRA, Ms. Soubbotina was with the Global Transfer Pricing practice of Deloitte Tax LLP for 13 years, leading project teams to execute transfer pricing and international tax projects, such as cost allocation, cost-sharing, uncertain tax position review, loan and guarantee pricing, intangible property valuation and restructuring, global documentation and planning. She also spent two years with Deloitte’s national office in Washington, DC developing best practices and technical advice for emerging areas in transfer pricing.



Ms. Soubbotina frequently presents on transfer pricing issues at industry conferences and has published articles in International Tax Review.

Amanda Gabai is a Director in the Tax Advisory Group at Deutsche Bank, where she leads the US Tax Advisory function for the Asset Management and Wealth Management divisions. She also structures M&A transactions and internal reorganizations, and advises on tax aspects of financial products. Her practice covers both domestic and cross-border transactions.



Prior to joining Deutsche Bank, Ms. Gabai spent 8 years as a member of the tax group at Jones Day, where she worked on M&A, private equity and distressed transactions – most notably working on Chrysler LLC’s sale of substantially all of its assets to new Chrysler Group LLC, led by Fiat. She also has substantial experience in lending and capital markets transactions.



Ms. Gabai received her JD from the UCLA School of Law, where she received the Bruce I. Hochman Award for Excellence in the Study of Tax Law, and her LLM in Taxation from New York University School of Law. She currently serves as an alternate member of the Board of Directors of Deutsche Bank Trust Company Delaware, and she previously served on the advisory board of the Women’s Leadership and Mentoring Alliance.
